Step 2: Determine needed changes

A court emergency management committee consisting of the court’s leadership, the court’s automation specialist, law enforcement, the facilities manager, and other interested parties, such as representatives of the bar and members of the public should be established if one does not currently exist. The committee should review the results of the information collected in Step 1 and identify strategies to improve performance. For example, does the court have an emergency response plan in place? If so, how current is it? If a plan does not exist or is dated, the court should undertake a security audit to determine specific areas of vulnerability. How effectively does the court communicate with other government partners involved in responding to jurisdictional emergencies? Does the court need to strengthen its relationships with these officials? By systematically reviewing the responses to the questions in Step 1, the committee will get a picture of what is working well, what weaknesses need to be addressed, and what new activities should be undertaken. Potential strategies to address needed changes are described under "Step 3: Identify Solutions."
